MATHEW EXTENDS LEAD WITH DOUBLE WIN IN COIMBATORE

Defending Gixxer Cup Champion Joseph Mathew starred in a thrilling weekend of racing at the Kari Motor Speedway and won the third round of the 2018 Suzuki Gixxer Cup in Coimbatore in India at the weekend.
Displaying speed and maturity that belied their young ages, the youngsters of Suzuki’s single-make series, using the new Gixxer SF 150cc machinery, made this a weekend to remember for the racing enthusiasts of Coimbatore.
In the opening race, Mathew stamped his authority at the start with a commanding performance: He romped home in just 12:36:577 minutes, ahead of Malsawmdawngliana, from Aizwal, who clocked 12:41:202 minutes. Sachin Chaudhary from Ahmedabad finished third to complete the podium.
Race two was also thrilling as Mathew again took the top-spot to make two top podium finishes. He crossed the line again ahead of Malsawmdawngliana, while Syed Muzamil Ali, from Bengaluru, raced to third position.
The Championship now moves to the final round on November 16-18th at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC), Greater Noida, in Uttar Pradesh.
Showing the improved progression of these young riders, better lap-times were recorded than the previous two rounds of the Suzuki Gixxer Cup at the same circuit this season; proving that this one-make series continues to nurture skills.
The fastest lap during the opening race was by Mathew in 01:22:389 minutes, while in the second race, Malsawmdawngliana clocked-in at 01:21:767 minutes.

• The Suzuki Gixxer Cup is conducted under the guidance of the FIM and FMSCI, in association with JK Tyre Motorsports at Kari Speedway, Coimbatore. Here, biking enthusiasts come to experience the thrill of racing and support their favourite contender. For Round 3, 65 Gixxer owners from in-and-around areas of Coimbatore gathered together at the venue.
• From a total of 300 entries received from all over India, a total of 22 riders were shortlisted for the Suzuki Gixxer Cup in 2018. The selected riders were given a thorough technical training session for three days at Kari Motor Speedway, Coimbatore, followed by theory sessions and on-track riding under the guidance of experts in the industry as a part of their race preparation.
